The Quest for Freedom book cover

Epic Fantasy

Date Published: 07-05-2025

Affer was once a peaceful planet, until a war broke out between its six inhabiting species. The humans, who were once the mightiest force on Affer, were massacred in droves, and the ones who survived the onslaught were reduced to mere slaves. The five other species divided the humans amongst themselves and returned to their respective kingdoms.

The years passed, turning into decades and centuries, without any change. Eventually, the humans had accepted their fate as slaves. All except one. Four hundred and seventy-three years later, Fletcher Rush starts his journey to free his kind…and conquer the planet.

I’ve always had a love for fantasy, and to this day LOTR and The Inheritance Cycle remain some of my favorite books. There are limitless possibilities when you’re writing, but with fantasy, it’s different. You don’t have to adhere to rules or logic; you can create whatever type of world you want. Characters can live in a dystopian society, a grand futuristic city, a picture-perfect world, or a medieval wasteland. Time, technology, and magic are all there for the taking, and as a writer, you get to choose what defines your story.

Author Interview

Tell us about your current release
My current release is Conquest. The story follows Fletcher Rush, a slave determined to achieve the freedom of more than just himself. His dream is to free every last human on Affer and bring the kingdoms that enslaved them to their knees. It doesn’t matter that he’s vastly outnumbered and outskilled; Fletcher and his growing army are willing to die for freedom.
The Quest For Freedom is the first book in the trilogy, and the journey has only begun.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I started writing out of boredom, and quickly realized how much I enjoyed it. After that, I wrote for three years before I started Conquest, putting all I learned into one story.

What can we expect to see from you in the future, any books on the backburner?
I have the second and third book of Conquest I’m working on, after that, you’ll just have to wait to find out. I definitely have ideas, and I’m excited to lay my options out and move forward with one. For me, the beginning of a book is the best part, as I am free to do as I please, and I can let my mind run wild.

Did you learn anything from writing your book? What was it?
I learned to chase your dreams and work towards the life you want to live. When I first started writing, I was awful at it, but I kept writing until I made Conquest. If I had looked at my first work and given up, I wouldn’t be where I am now.
It’s easy to give up, it’s hard to stand up and keep going when you’ve been knocked down a hundred times.

Some writers have something playing in the background, do you and what?
This depends. At times I put on music and it helps paint the sense, at others it’s just a distraction and I work better without it. As for what I put on depends on the part I’m writing and what I feel like listening to. Sometimes I’ll put on Classical, other times I’ll play Neffex, Phonk, or even video game music.

What do you hope your writing brings to your readers?
I hope it brings people to another world and lets them step away from this one. Some of my favorite stories have done just that for me, and when I’m done, I wonder how it would be to live in that world and be forced into that story. I believe a good story should make you stop and think about it, even after you finish it, and I hope my story stays with people well after they finish it.
Conquest was meant to inspire and show that even one person can change the world.
