Author Interview
What is your favorite part of this book and why?
I had so much fun combining the mystery and romance elements in A KILLER FOR CHRISTMAS, so my favorite parts are the moments where I take a well-loved Christmas romance trope and flip it upside down. For example, in many holiday romances, we have the trope of the ‘almost first kiss’ where two characters are interrupted by something funny like a snowball. In my ‘almost first kiss’ scene, they’re interrupted by a blood-curdling scream.
If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
I would spend the day with my main character Kelsey and have fun doing all of the touristy events around the town of Christmasville. Hopefully not finding any bodies along the way.
What books/authors have most inspired you?
When I was a teenager, I stumbled upon Barbara Michaels’s gothic mysteries in my local library and devoured each one. She supercharged my love for reading.
Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
They all come entirely from my imagination.
What made you want to become a writer?
I always wanted to be a writer, even when I was very young. When I was little, my favorite books were the Choose Your Own Adventure series because even then, I loved deciding what the characters would do! In my teen years, I abandoned my dream of becoming a writer because it seemed too unlikely for me. I wanted a more stable career. So I got a marketing degree and went into business. But writing always tugged at me.
So I returned to it in my 30s, thinking it would be okay if it just stayed a hobby. Thankfully it became more than that.
