THE MAYOR’S OFFICE • PRIVATE
Well… You Found the Key.
Apparently the locks around here aren’t nearly as good as I thought.
Welcome to the Mayor’s Office—the part of Sarandipity’s you’re probably not supposed to see.
Town Hall may look organized out front, but back here? There are half-finished ideas on the desk, projects stacked in questionable places, notes I swear made sense when I wrote them, and approximately 47 things I was just about to get back to.
Since you went through all that trouble to find the key, you might as well come in.
On the Mayor’s Desk
If it’s on this desk, one of three things is probably true: I’m working on it, I’m supposed to be working on it, or I put it there so I wouldn’t forget about it.
That third category is responsible for most of the desk.
What I’m Building
The thing currently getting most of your attention.
What I’m Obsessed With
Whatever has hijacked your brain lately. Business project, recipe, book, craft, ridiculous research rabbit hole—it can change whenever you want.
What I Should Be Doing
The thing glaring at you from underneath everything else.
Contents of the Mayor’s desk are subject to change without notice, reason, or completion of the previous project.
The Pile I Swear I’m Getting To
Every office has one.
Mine just happens to contain business ideas, half-built products, recipes I want to test, things I want to write, projects I started at an unreasonable hour, and at least a few ideas that probably seemed much more manageable when I first had them.
Consider this the unofficial waiting room for things that might eventually make their way into Sarandipity’s.
What’s Currently in the Pile
Here I actually want you to list real unfinished projects.
☐ Finish the Neighbor Passports
Because apparently building an entire town wasn’t enough. Now everybody needs documentation.
NOTE TO SELF
☐ Finish the Neighbor Passports
☐ Girl Stuff IRL
There’s a magazine around here somewhere. Probably underneath the printables.
CURRENTLY BURIED
☐ Girl Stuff IRL
☐ Whisperwood
There is an entire fictional town waiting beyond the bridge. No pressure.
DON’T FORGET
☐ Whisperwood
☐ That Cookbook I’m Definitely Finishing
Which cookbook? Excellent question.
SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA
☐ That Cookbook I’m Definitely Finishing
☐ Approximately 847 Product Ideas
This number has not been independently verified.
THIS ESCALATED QUICKLY
☐ Approximately 847 Product Ideas
☐ Whatever I Thought of at 2:13 A.M.
It was brilliant. I wrote it down somewhere.
QUESTIONABLE DECISIONS WERE MADE
☐ Whatever I Thought of at 2:13 A.M.
Official Mayor’s Disclaimer: Finding something in this pile does not mean it’s coming soon. It means I had an idea and haven’t talked myself out of it yet.
Scribbled in the Margins
Not every thought needs a business plan, a launch date, or its own color-coded Trello board.
Some things just get scribbled in the margins while I’m figuring out what works, what doesn’t, what I’ve changed my mind about, and what I probably should have known before I started.
Think of this as the stuff I’d tell you if you pulled up a chair beside my desk.
THINGS I’VE LEARNED THE HARD WAY
Some lessons arrive neatly packaged. Others show up after you’ve spent three hours fixing something you broke in twelve seconds.
I CHANGED MY MIND
I reserve the right to have a brilliant idea on Tuesday and decide it was ridiculous by Thursday. Growth. 😂
CURRENTLY TESTING
Some ideas need a little time in the wild before I decide whether they’re genius, useful, completely unnecessary—or somehow all three.
Some Things Are Better Left Alone
Every office has a junk drawer.
Mine has several.
Most contain exactly what you’d expect—paper clips, old notes, receipts I’m definitely going to need someday, and at least one pen that stopped working three years ago.
There may, however, be one drawer in this office that’s a little more interesting than the others.
But it’s clearly labeled.
And you are a responsible adult.
So I’m sure we won’t have any problems.
Seriously. Don’t open it. 😂
Message the Mayor
Since you’ve already broken into my office, rummaged through my unfinished projects, and ignored at least one very clearly written warning, I suppose we’re past formal introductions.
Got a question? An idea? Something you’d love to see around town? Found something that’s broken? Or just want to say hey?
Leave me a note. Unlike most of the papers on this desk, I’ll actually try not to lose this one.
Before Somebody Notices You’re Here…
You should probably put everything back where you found it.
Yes, even that.
And maybe put the key back, too. Other curious neighbors deserve the chance to make questionable decisions.
You’re welcome to come back anytime. Things have a habit of moving around in here. New ideas appear. Old ones disappear. Occasionally, something that was buried under a pile of papers actually gets finished.
Just don’t tell anyone I let you in.
And seriously. Put the key back.
