Describe yourself.
Lynette Lawrence or Lynnie, to my friends. A socialite and former magazine editor.
Survived 65 years in the fashion publishing industry.
I’m 85 years young, thin and fabulously put together. I enjoy fine dining and clever
conversations.
What makes you laugh?
Witty men, particularly if they are wealthy.
Are you afraid of anything?
My beautiful blonde bob is not my own. I wear a wig. I enjoy the compliments about my
lustrous locks and would rather others didn’t know what lies beneath.
Also, and more importantly, I worry about having my social status revealed. I live in an
apartment in a not so desirable area of Parramatta in Western Sydney.
Do you have a special talent or gift?
Capacity to determine where a person shops, and to classify them by social status
within one minute of meeting them, based on their clothing and opening remarks. It’s a
fifty-year habit I can’t shake.
I’m also very good at solving puzzles.
Do you have a secret?

‘My story? There isn’t enough time on this cruise to do it justice. In short, I’ve been
sacked six times, married five times, widowed twice and divorced twice. After 65 years
as a magazine editor, I now spend my time travelling and drinking and sometimes
drinking and travelling. I was meant to be in Aspen this week catching up with friends,
but my doctor banned me from travelling by plane while I’m on blood thinners and it was
too late to book a cruise to get me there in time. I have a long shopping list of medical
ailments, of which I’ll spare you the details. I’m bald beneath this wig which is currently
the most distressing thing in my life. Oh, and I like to read.’
Tell us about your family.

‘So you’re still married?’ Molly asked.
‘Apparently. Haven’t seen him in twenty-six years. Since we were at a party in St Tropez
last century, there were many attractive women…and men. Well, I’ll leave the rest to
your imagination. I came home alone.’
Who is the most important person in your life?
Myself. I’m 85. You need to look after yourself.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
When the vicar discovers the misalignment between how I present myself and where I
live…
What do you do for fun?
Attend fashion parades. Go on cruises. Spot typos in editorials. Visit beauty spas. Read
novels by Agatha Christie.
If you could change anything about your life what would it be?
Chosen better men to marry.
Tell me about your author.
Hmmm. You’ll need to buy me a bottle of Bollinger to loosen my lips about TJ Stanley.
Like myself, she’s quite a good observer of people and their frailties.
Do you like the way they write you?
It’s more revealing than I would like, but at 85 what do I need to be worried about!
About TJ Stanley
Tracy Stanley has been in love with storytelling since she left university in 1984.
In 2017, she started publishing, and as of August 2025, Tracy has independently published
fifteen books across five genres, including business books, travel memoirs, cosy mysteries,
romantic suspense, and action-adventure novels. These last two genres have been written under
the pen name of Jane Ellyson.
Her writing approach for novels recognises that creativity in storytelling comes from mixing the
familiar with a twist, combining comfort and intrigue.
Tracy is Australian and lives in Brisbane.
