Some professional assignments carry consequences far beyond their original scope. Fire Feud by Thomas Roehlk explores how a single case can expose connections that were never meant to resurface.

When construction workers uncover skeletal remains at a jobsite, attorney Mandy Doucette is brought in to manage what initially appears to be a contained legal issue. DNA testing changes everything, linking the body to Mandy’s employer and to the family of her boyfriend. The case rapidly escalates from routine compliance work to a deeply personal threat.

Mandy’s twin sister Reggie, an FBI forensic pathologist, uncovers evidence tying the remains to a crime rooted in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Her findings expose a feud between two influential families that has endured for 140 years. As the sisters dig deeper, they confront fraud, betrayal, and increasing violence from those intent on preserving their legacies. Each step closer to the truth places them in greater danger.
