Making money from home has become easier than ever in 2023 as more people turn to saving money with DIY crafts. And nowadays, most shoppers prefer to support small business owners, especially locally, rather than big corporations.
Small Businesses You Can Do for Making Money at Home
There are several ways to make money working from home, such as:
Freelancing
Freelancing – offering your skills and services to clients on a project basis.
I’ve been freelancing as a writer for nearly 20 years. If you’re interested in a freelance lifestyle, check out my writing blog!
If you’re new to writing, the best place to find clients is Fiverr.com. My favorite jobs have come from ProBlogger.
Online Teaching
Online tutoring or teaching – teaching a subject you are knowledgeable in to students online.
I’ve spent thousands of dollars on online courses, paid webinars, workshops, and bundles. No matter what skill you want to learn, there’s a program out there waiting for your money.
Check out Ultimate Bundles for the best solopreneur resources. Now is the perfect time to sign up before the release of the Genius Blogger’s Toolkit that’s coming out in February.
I purchased the last bundle and it was totally worth it! The resources, programs, and tools I got from it helped advance my business by months.
Selling Online Products
Selling products online – starting an online store or using platforms like Amazon or Etsy to sell products.
Sarandipity’s has become my attempt to start a passive income business to supplement the income I bring in as a freelance writer with multiple clients.
My goal is to sell digital graphics, printables, stickers, templates, and physical goods that can help other solopreneurs advance their small work from home business with minimal investment.
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing – promoting other people’s products and earning a commission for each sale.
There are a ton of useful products I’ve found that I like to recommend to my readers and customers. Many of these brands have a type of rewards program that compensates its users with money for any sales or signups that occur from new customers due to the feedback of the affiliate.
I participate in multiple programs, including Amazon, Etsy, Canva, and Ultimate Bundles. If a company participates in an affiliate marketing program, you’ll see a link at the bottom of the website. Any person who engages in affiliate marketing must disclose this information on your website. Here are some key points to include in your affiliate marketing notice:
- Disclosure: Clearly state that you are using affiliate marketing on your website and that you may earn a commission for any purchases made through your referral links.
- Identification: Identify yourself as the owner or operator of the website and provide contact information, such as an email address or phone number, for customers to reach you.
- Product review: If you are reviewing products, be honest and impartial about the features and benefits of the product, and disclose any potential downsides.
- FTC compliance: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that you disclose any material connections, such as financial or personal relationships, with the product or service you are promoting.
- Linking policy: Clearly state that you only promote products or services that align with your values and beliefs, and that you only include referral links for products or services that you have personally used and recommend.
- Terms of Service: Include a link to your website’s terms of service, which should include information about your use of affiliate marketing and any other legal requirements.
Serving as a Virtual Assistant
Virtual Assistant – providing administrative or other support services to businesses and entrepreneurs remotely.
Working as a VA is a great way to bring in a bit of extra money while working at home. If you are great with scheduling, planning, organizing, administrative tasks, SEO and keyword research, outlines, editing, or content ideas, you might have a future as a virtual assistant.
Being a Blogger
Blogging or creating content – creating content on a specific niche and monetizing through advertising or sponsored posts.
I try to manage three separate blogs that I hope to get set up for monetization. Two of the three blogs are new, Sarandipity’s (you’re reading it!) and Adventures with Canines.
So, I’m having to start from scratch to fill them out and get them noticed by Google. While I’m doing this, I’m open to hosting guest bloggers, people who want to promote their new products, programs, or groups, and people who would like to get more exposure through an interview or feature.
My third blog Freelance Mompreneur has been in production since the early 2000s, when my primary source of writing was fiction novel writing.
