Death of an Antiquarian: A Mia Reid, Archaeologist, Mystery
by Rose Kerr

Rating
This was such an engaging cozy mystery, and I really enjoyed following Mia Reid through this adventure. The mix of archaeology, museum work, and crime gave the story a fresh angle that stood out from other cozies I’ve read.

I wanted to read Death of an Antiquarian because I have a lifelong interest in antiques. The mystery aspect of this book was well done, with strong suspects and some unexpected plot twists. I enjoyed this read and look forward to future books in the series!

My rating for Death of an Antiquarian by Rose Kerr is four stars. Ms. Kerr did a fantastic job steering me to the wrong side of who could have been involved. I am still in shock at how it all ended. Mia is a character that I like coming back to join. It’s always nice to see a sleuth in a different type of profession.

Author Interview

What is your favorite part of this book and why?
I really enjoyed showing the work Mia does at the museum as a archaeologist. I didn’t know a lot about this and I took the time to learn what the work can be. Mia’s work at the museum plays a significant role in the book.

If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
I would love to spend a day with Mia. I am fascinated with archaeology and that’s why I decided to have my main character be an archaeologist. I think it would be so much fun to learn about the past and see how people lived.
With her job at the museum, there would be so much to do. Work on an exhibit, work with artifacts, and work on new programs.

What books/authors have most inspired you?
I read a lot in the mystery genre. Authors: Carolyn Hart, Agatha Christie, Vicki Delany, Sue Grafton, Gigi Pandian, Lynn Cahoon; have all inspired me to write.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
So my characters are from my imagination. I may take certain characteristics from people, but I don’t base my characters off them. When I’m putting together a character sketch, I’ll know if my character has green eyes or brown hair. And I’ll often look for inspiration through photos to be able to describe them.
But behaviors and mannerisms are usually from my imagination.

What made you want to become a writer?
I was twelve at the time, reading And Then There Were None. I was completely engrossed in the book, at home, alone in the middle of the afternoon. My mom and brothers were visiting with my grandmother and I’d decided to stay home to read. It was the end of the book and the killer was just about to be revealed when the front door of our house burst open, and someone came in the house screaming. I jumped out of my chair, convinced the murderer was in the house with me. Turns out it was my brothers who were playing a game! That’s when I realized the power of the written word and thought to myself that I’d love to be able to do that one day.
I’ve read almost every book Agatha Christie wrote (and re-read them many times). And Then There Were None is still my favorite book of all time.
Although Agatha’s books made me want to write, I knew I’d need to write my own books.
I write about strong women who are called upon to do things they’ve never
had to do before and do well. Cozy mysteries about women who work in
non-traditional cozy jobs.

Thank you for your questions!
Good luck to everyone in the giveaway!
