Author Interview

Tell us about your current release.

Formula for Fate is a contemporary romance with a dash of magic. A heartfelt ‘single mother meets a grieving widower’ story about healing from loss, rebuilding trust, and embracing second chances. But it’s more than a love story, it also features a magical subplot with a fairy godmother working behind the
scenes to nudge the characters toward a fated future.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve always loved writing and, although I can’t pinpoint the exact moment, I’m
definitely meant to be a writer.

Have you published any previous books?

Yes, I’ve published seven books, plus a box set containing all five books in The Magicals Series. Formula for Fate is book 2 in my Fairy Godmothers, Incorporated Series.

What can we expect to see from you in the future, any books on the back burner?

Fairy Godmothers, Incorporated Series is a planned trilogy so my next project will be book 3. Each book in the series features one of my fairy godmothers—Faye, Ginger, and Rainy—who help their charges while healing their own past wounds. In Designed by Destiny, Faye rekindles romance with her long-lost fiancé. In Formula for Fate, Rainy finds solace in reuniting with her granddaughter. The last book will follow Ginger’s journey…

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

When I’m not writing, you can find me reading and drinking coffee—preferably on a hot summer day in my backyard oasis. I also enjoy music, rock concerts, musical theatre, yoga, and movies.

Did you learn anything from writing your book? What was it?

Writing Formula for Fate helped me recognize my own unresolved grief. Guiding my characters through their journeys—learning to sit with loss and opening themselves up to second chances—gave me hope for my own path to healing.
Healing isn’t linear, but love can truly be medicinal.

Some writers have something playing in the background, do you and what?

I prefer writing in silence, but finding it in a house full of people (and a dog) is more difficult than you might imagine. Spotify plays from the kitchen speaker all day long, and my husband, teenage sons, and rambunctious bichon frisé complete the chaotic soundtrack. Life is all about compromise so I cope with
the background noise by escaping into my office (where I can close the door) or hiding out in the kids’ clubhouse (a four-season backyard bunkie).

Tell us a little about yourself. Perhaps something not many people know about?

I’m an open book. <<cue laughter>> Seriously, it’s tricky finding something I haven’t mentioned in an interview before. I’m a big kid at heart and a lover of love. I cut my teeth on Disney princesses and the power of true love’s kiss which definitely spills over into my passion for writing romance. I’m also a
huge Disney fan. My husband and I went to Walt Disney World before we had kids (when Downtown Disney was still a thing), and we’ve taken our boys twice. I think they had more fun when they were little (at the ages of 3 and 5), but it’s still the happiest (and most magical) place on earth—at least to me.

What do you hope your writing brings to your readers?

I hope my books bring hope, comfort, and entertainment, an escape from real-life stress. I want readers to find inspiration, relaxation, and a safe place to believe in love, magic, and happily-ever-after.

Formula for Fate by Maya Tyler
Short Excerpt

“Doctor—” Leighton froze in place. Was he leaning in closer? Was he going to kiss her? Did she
want him to kiss her? Her feelings on the matter flip-flopped in rapid sequence like the ball in a
professional ping pong match. She moistened her lips in anticipation.
Xander dropped his hand and leaned back. He made a tsk-tsk sound. “I thought we were past all
that. It’s Xander, remember?”
Leighton’s chest tightened. She wanted him to kiss her, but it was probably for the best the kiss
never happened. She had Jacob to think about, and being straight with Xander was the mature
thing to do. “Xander, I’m very flattered, but this really isn’t the best time for me to start dating.”
She tilted her head toward Jacob. “We’re kind of a package deal.”
“I’m interested in the whole package, Leighton. I want to know you better, and I love kids.” He
smiled smugly. “Plus, I know great places to eat. Kid-friendly places.” He sent her a devastating
smile. “What do you say?”
“I’d say you’re nuts to want to get involved with me on any level.” She tossed her hair over her
shoulder. Maybe he was nuts, but wasn’t she equally nuts to even consider it?
“You’re beautiful, Leighton. What’s so unusual about wanting to get to know a beautiful lady?”
“You’re crazy.” She shook her head. “You don’t want to sign up for this.”
“I’d like to get to know you better. Then we go from there.” Xander shrugged. “It’s as simple as
that.”
“Nothing is simple anymore.”
“Just think about it, okay?”
“Okay.” She took a sip of water, contemplating Xander’s revelation. He seems actually
interested in me and genuinely interested in Jacob too. That’s more than I can say about Jacob’s
own father.
