Volunteer water sampling. Development deals. A dead businessman in the woods.
While volunteering with a local stream restoration group, Molly and her husband, Scott, expect to end the day with nothing more to show for it than muddy hiking shoes and water samples. Instead, they stumble upon a dead body left in the woods behind the Buckeye Trail. The victim turns out to be Upton North—an unpopular developer with business ties to half the town and enemies to match.
As Molly starts asking questions, she uncovers a web of grudges involving tenants, activists, and business owners. She’ll have to follow clues from forest trails to forgotten basements—and confront just how far greed and intimidation pushed the wrong person too far.
With a busy garden center to manage, and a beloved black and white cat occasionally underfoot, Molly digs into another Succulent Sleuth case where the roots of the crime run deep.
About Iris March

Iris March has a reputation for killing house plants, and now she’s killing people off in books? Coincidence? Perhaps not. Iris has spent two decades working in the sustainability field and is usually either reading a book or on a trail. She lives in Ohio with her husband, son, and three cats.

Character Interview
Describe yourself. Hi. I’m Molly Green. I manage a garden center, Patty’s Plant Place. It’s named after my Grandma
Patty. My twin sister, cousin, and I inherited it when she died. I’ve never worked anywhere else and love the work so much. I also like hiking with my husband, reading, and going on walks with our puppy.
I’ve recently been given the nickname “Succulent Sleuth” because I’ve helped solve a few murders that happened on the trail in the woods that runs behind our shop. I don’t know why they keep happening, but I’ve gotten pretty good at pretending to be a detective.
What makes you laugh?
My niece and nephew make me laugh more than anyone else. They’re so fun to be with and so silly.
They are my twin sister’s kids and I see them most days as their school bus drops them off right in the parking lot of the garden center.
Are you afraid of anything?
I don’t talk about it much, but I just can’t stand spiders. Too many legs!
Do you have a special talent or gift?
I can grow just about any plant you want. I also have a great memory for what our customers have havec bought in the past.
Do you have a secret?
Well, there is a secret panel in the wall in the workroom at the garden center. I really shouldn’t tell anyone about it. I guess you’ll have to read The Broken Bridge to find out!
Tell us about your family.
I grew up in Hawthorn Heights and still live there. Pretty much everyone in my family does too! My closest friend in the world is my twin sister, May, and I’m so glad she’s in town and works at the garden center too. My parents also live in Hathorn Heights, and so does my dad’s brother’s family, Uncle Pete and Aunt Tori, and their daughter, Shannon.
Who is the most important person in your life?
It’s a hard question to answer. Of course, I love my husband. He’s the best. But I love my sister, too. But it really might be my Grandma Patty who had so much influence in my life and taught me everything she knew about plants and how to run a business.
What do you do for fun?
I love hiking, reading, and always gardening.
Tell me about your author.
Iris March needs to rely on me heavily to get the plant stuff right in our books. She kills most of the houseplants she keeps. Her mom and cousin-in-law also help.
Do you like the way they write you?
No complaints!
