A few days ago, my daughter asked me if I was a housewife. I laughed as I tried to decide how to answer. I mean, yes, I am a wife that stays home. And because I’m home 24/7, I tend to do the majority of the housework, organizing, and care of the family.
But truly, I’m much more, starting with being a home-based business owner – of several small businesses. I’m a mompreneur that’s constantly expanding my brand, while managing my full-time career as a freelance writer. I am a WFH – work from home wife and mom. In essence, I am a full-time working mom that operates out of a home office.
What is a WFH Mompreneur?
A WFH (work from home) mompreneur is a mom that runs a business from home while also taking care of the children (and pets) and managing household tasks. “WFH” stands for “work from home,” which means that mom operates the business out of a home office or workspace.
“Mompreneur” is a term that refers to a momma who is an entrepreneur or small business owner. I confess I’d never heard the term mompreneur or solopreneur until 2022. Before that time, I just considered myself a typical work from home freelance mom. It never occurred to me that I was a small business owner. But once I changed my mindset, it allowed me to think bigger than just being a writer for other people.
WFH mompreneurs often use technology to manage their businesses remotely, allowing us to balance work and family responsibilities. Finding this balance is crucial for a stress-free work-life balance and a happy mom.
Some common examples of businesses run by WFH mompreneurs include e-commerce stores, social media marketing, freelance writing, and coaching services. Sarandipity’s is my attempt at an e-commerce store. And if you’re following me on any of my social medias, that’s my pathetic attempt at social engagement.
While I’m writing this, I’m also listening to a video on YouTube on how to use AI to create social media content. It might be something I’ll try once I catch up with the delays in posting to all of my sites. If you love spending time on social, there’s a huge need for social media marketing.
And my journey as a WFH mompreneur started with my freelance writing journey. I still work as a freelance writer with several repeat clients and I’m always accepting new collaborations, so don’t be scared to reach out!
What Does A WFH Mompreneur Do?
Depending on the specific business and family needs, the responsibilities of a WFH mompreneur can vary. There are many opportunities to start home-based businesses that you can use for side hustles, full-time incomes, and passive income possibilities using your mom skills. I like to pull inspiration from my everyday life.
Make Money from Home with Online Budgeting Courses and DigitalProducts
A WFH mompreneur may be responsible for managing the family budget as well as the budget for her business. This could involve tracking expenses, creating financial goals, and making sure there is enough money for both personal and business expenses.
You can offer budgeting services to individuals or businesses who need help managing their finances. This could involve creating a budget plan, providing financial advice, and helping clients save money.
If you’re comfortable in front of the camera, you can use an online program like Teachable to offer online budgeting courses.
Better at digital graphics and data compilation? Use a program like Canva to create digital products such as budgeting templates or spreadsheets.
Maximize Your Earnings with Digital Planning Tools
A WFH mompreneur usually has to plan your work schedule around your children’s schedules, as well as plan for important family events and business deadlines.
This could involve using a planner or calendar to stay organized and on top of tasks. I have several different planners for the various areas of my life.
You can offer planning services to individuals or businesses who need help organizing their schedules or events. This could involve creating a schedule, coordinating appointments, and managing deadlines.
A potential WFH business could be offering digital planning tools or courses on how to plan effectively for personal or business purposes.
Planners, printables, schedules, and checklists are best sellers for online stores, physical locations, or to offer as freebies for your lead magnet to bring customers to your brand. I offer a free 2023 undated planner for people who sign up for my email list. But if you join from my AWC brand, you get a free dog care daily schedule.
Leave a comment on this post and your email and I’ll send a link to download a free daily to do list worksheet that you can print out and use or edit in Canva to turn into a product to sell or offer as an incentive.
Start a Lucrative Home-Based Business Selling Digital Products Online
A WFH mompreneur is often responsible for grocery shopping, as well as shopping for business supplies or products. This could involve creating a shopping list and finding the best deals.
For a potential at-home based business, you can start a personal shopping or grocery delivery service, where you shop for clients and deliver their items to their homes or businesses. You can charge a fee for your services or earn a commission on the items you purchase. Prefer to work with a reputable brand that’s already established? Sign up for GrubHub, DoorDash, or InstaCart. I use InstaCart often to have groceries delivered when I don’t feel like shopping or I’ve forgotten something on my recipe card.
I do weekly meal planning and grocery list creations to eliminate the need for random middle-of-the-week shopping trips to stick to our monthly grocery budget. Before I started making my own stuff, I was constantly buying different packs, trying to find one that met our unique needs. If you do this, you can make videos, tutorials, books, or affiliate blog posts demonstrating how to do it.
Try offering an online store where you sell digital products such as e-books, courses, or printables. I have an Etsy store, a Koji, Amazon, and Dribble. Shopify will be next, I suppose.
Or you can start a fashion niche website and engage in affiliate marketing and drop-shipping. Are you a designer? Create online eCommerce stores and sell your designs – physical or digital. Creative Market and Creative Fabrica are great for selling graphics.
Clean Up Your Finances with Online Cleaning Courses
A WFH mompreneur usually has to manage household cleaning tasks, such as laundry, dishes, cleaning floors, windows, dusting, and tidying up. Having a cleaning schedule and delegating tasks to other family members is one way to manage the workload while running a home-based small business.
One option is to start a cleaning business where you provide cleaning services to individuals or businesses. You can charge an hourly rate or a flat fee for your services.
Prefer something that doesn’t require you to leave the house? Offer online cleaning courses or digital products such as cleaning checklists or guides. My favorite source for learning how to make cleaning products to keep this dirty house under control is Cleaning Mama.
Not only does she provide awesome cleaning tips, but she also has some of the best cleaning lists I’ve found. I used quite a few of them a while ago, but I found that my life just doesn’t balance with a rigid cleaning cycle.
So, I used her for reference on the best ways to clean my house for ME and these messy mutts. And I made my own cleaning planners. Cleaning checklists, books, and DIY homemade natural cleaning products are major under-served sources of income.
Turn Your Love of Cooking into a Profitable Home Business with Online Cooking Resources
Cooking is an unfortunate task most WFH mompreneurs have to do. There are plenty of people who enjoy the job. I’m not one of them! I prefer things to be as simple as possible. Mompreneurs often need to plan and prepare meals for the family, as well as plan and prepare meals for business events or meetings.
Depending on your cooking skills and passion, there are many options for making money with a home-based business.
You can start a catering business where you prepare and deliver meals to individuals or businesses. You can charge per meal or per event.
Or you can offer online cooking classes or digital products such as meal plans or recipe books. You can also start an at-home bakery for people or for pets. Learn how to create your own home dog bakery with this free workshop.
Drive Your Income Higher with in Person Delivery Services
A WFH mompreneur often needs to drive children to school or activities, as well as attend business meetings or events that require travel.
You can start a ride-sharing or delivery service, where you transport clients or goods to different locations. You can charge a fee for your services or earn a commission on the items you transport. Everyone is familiar with ride-share apps like Lyft and Uber, whether or not you’ve personally used them. If driving is your pleasure, sign up for one of these services and make money driving around strangers.
Or if driving people around isn’t your thing, there is also the opportunity to deliver groceries and other ordered items from shopping apps like Uber Eats and InstaCart.
Earn Money from Home by Providing Virtual Assistant Services Online
Many WFH mompreneurs handle administrative tasks for a functional home life. But these talents can translate excellently for business, such as scheduling appointments, responding to emails, and managing social media accounts.
You can offer virtual assistant services to businesses or people who need help managing their administrative tasks. This could involve managing emails, typing, data entry, scheduling appointments, and creating reports.
You may also be responsible for marketing, social media, accounting and finance, website design and management and more.

If you have an eye for spotting typos, grammar mistakes, and misspellings, you may have the skills to excel as a professional proofreader. Want to see if this life journey is right for you? Try this free 76-minute masterclass by Caityln Pyle of Proofread Anywhere.
Cash In on Your Love of Animals with Pet Care Courses
Many homes have pets, increasing the workload of most mompreneurs. While we love our sweet furbabies and want to give them a happy life, the extra tasks can get exhausting. There’s the feeding, walking, vet’s visits, grooming, cleaning, training, playtime, and discipline.
If you love animals and you have the space, you can translate these awesome skills into a profitable business from home.
You can start a pet-sitting or dog-walking business, where you provide care and exercise for pets while their owners are away. You can charge per visit or per day. If you have the space, you can also offer boarding of canines, or if you’re good with obedience, start a dog training school.
Prefer something that doesn’t require you to handle animals or engage with people? You can use your skills to offer online pet care courses and videos. Or you can create digital products to sell such as training guides or pet grooming manuals.
Another awesome income stream is to start a home-based dog bakery. I just finished a Recipe Book for Healthy, Tasty Homemade Dog Food. It’s in the edit phases and I hope to have it published by the end of the week.
To go along with it, I’ll be creating bundles of recipe cards, for people who prefer a specific category versus a full book. There are hundreds of opportunities if you just keep your mind open to them!
Pamper Your Pup: Become a Professional Dog Groomer
If you’re a pet parent, you’re fully aware of the messes they make and often become, whether it’s from playing in mud or getting a flea infestation. A lot of people take their dogs to professional groomers rather than handling the messy task themselves.
Some types of grooming require expert experience, such as dental work, anal gland drainage, nail trimming, and haircuts. If you’re a DIY dog expert, you’ve probably figured out how to do all of this yourself versus dragging your crew of kids to a professional groomer.
Providing a home-based grooming service can be a great way to bring in an extra income with your dog care skills. You can charge per service or per pet.You can charge per service or per pet.
But you can also create a mobile dog grooming business, working out of a vehicle or van that allows you to go to your customers, providing them with convenient home-based grooming. There are tons of people out there✋who would rather not have to go out into public and deal with people.
You can also offer online courses or digital products on pet grooming or pet care. Record videos, write how-to guides and books, do affiliate marketing for products, or make your own pet-care products like shampoos, doggie breath treats, and fur scent fresheners.
Help Others and Make Money from Home with Online Therapy Sessions
Being a WFH mompreneur means you have plenty of opportunities to counsel your children through emotional situations. But if you find yourself also in the position of counseling and helping other people, you might have the chops to become a therapist.
Ever since Covid happened, many people have grown accustomed to the ease and comfort of home-based services. And a lot of people with mental issues often find it easier to receive therapy help in a comfortable environment, like their own home.
If you have have a counseling license or you’re a licensed therapist, operating out of a home office can be a great choice for mompreneurs.
You can offer online therapy sessions or digital products such as guided meditations or mindfulness courses. Or you can offer therapy services to individuals or groups. You can charge per session or per package.
If you’re not licensed, you can manage a home-based business as a mental health coach, a lifestyle coach, or write books on mental health. Podcasts, videos, and online courses can also be excellent markets to target with your talents.
For graphic designers and writers, you can create mental health guides, tip articles, and motivational quotes. You can even sell motivational photos, wall art, printables, and planners on e-commerce sites like Etsy, your website, or Shopify, You can even sell these on Amazon KDP.
Teach Your Way to Success with Online Tutoring and Teaching Services
how to make money with online tutoring and teaching services:
A WFH mompreneur may need to help her children with homework or homeschooling. If you’re one of the lucky ones that actually understand the chaos that is today’s education system, you may have a jackpot opportunity.
There are plenty of parents out there – usually us Gen X and Xennials – that have no idea how to navigate the messiness of Common Core and the BS they teach in schools these days. So, we often leave it to professionals. But there are plenty of kids – I have three – that need more help than normal school hours. They also need one-on-one help, in the form of tutoring. Which I gladly pay for if it means I don’t have to learn the crap they do. 🤣
So, mompreneurs can make good money as an online (or in person) tutor. You can offer tutoring or teaching services to students who need help with their schoolwork or test preparation. Charge per session or per package.
Or you can create and sell digital products such as educational courses or study guides. You can also record videos or write guides to teach a topic.
If you’re a success at a certain business topic, like I am freelancing, you can make money teaching classes or workshops related to your business. Or provide tools and resources like checklists, printables, guides, and books that help those in your niche.

A WFH mompreneur may need to manage her own appearance and style, as well as help her children with their appearance for school or events.
If you often get complimented on your superb sense of fashion – whether it’s for your outfits or those that you adorn your children with – starting a small business from home as a stylist might be right for you.
You can become a fashion or beauty consultant and offer styling services to individuals or businesses. Another option is to offer online fashion or beauty courses in written, video, audio, or a combination.
