Ghost cat Soji draws Camelia into an age-old web of secrets when a body turns up in the long-abandoned house on the hill.
Decades ago, Ida Jacks died a tragic death in her old ancestral home. Since then, the place has stood empty, just another of Ocean Cove’s moldering landmarks. Now paranormal investigator Griffin Gage is about to change all that. But Gage’s plan is to contact dead Ida takes a tragic turn when, instead of a spirit, he finds a corpse.
Ghost cat Soji has been acting strange, trying to tell Camelia something, but what, the octogenarian cannot discern. Is it about Ida? The Jacks House? The murder? And why does her own cat Blaze keep disappearing to the guesthouse with no apparent means of transport?
Handsome Sheriff Jamie can’t figure it out, and neither can Camelia’s clairvoyant confidant Vera nor her very special friend Ellery. Camelia is on her own to uncover the killer, but can she solve the mysteries in time to save innocent lives, and maybe a ghost or two?

Author Interview
What is your favorite part of this book and why?
I think I’m a little in love with the first chapter. It was the basis for the entire book. I had no idea what the story would be about until those first words wrote themselves in my head. Once I had that down, the rest of Ghost Cat and the Haunted House came willingly.
Chapter 1 opens with Camelia, my septuagenarian hero, sitting in her living room watching her ghost cat companion twirling in the middle of the carpet. Camelia has no idea what it’s about and becomes more confused when Soji intones the mysterious words, “Beware the ghost of Ida Jacks. She is not what she seems…”
If you could spend time with a character from your book who would it be? And what would you do during that day?
I write my characters to be enjoyable, so it’s hard to pick just one.
The older gentleman artist?
The hunky sheriff?
The billionaire?
The psychic best friend?
The hero Camelia who moved to quiet little Ocean Cove, Oregon only to discover her roommate was a ghost cat?
The ghost cat herself?
My answer is not what you would expect. If I could spend time with any of my series’ characters, it would be Blaze, Camelia’s elderly cat. (Real, not ghost) You see, Blaze is based on my own cat who passed away. He was my heart cat, and I would love to have another moment with him. As for what we would do, likely it would entail treats, naps, and cuddles.
What books/authors have most inspired you?
The Queen of Cat Mysteries Lillian Jackson Braun was my first inspiration to write cozy cat fiction. I recall reading one of her “The Cat Who…” books that I’d got from the library and thinking, “A mystery! With cats! I love it!”
Shirley Rousseau Murphy, author of the Joe Grey series (and fellow member of the Cat Writers’ Association until her death) is another favorite.
Her cat mysteries feature extraordinary talking cats.
Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
My characters are all figments of my imagination, though I may utilize personality traits I’ve observed in real life.
What made you want to become a writer?
It started in Mrs. Wilson’s fourth grade class. I wrote cat stories then too.
But then I became centered on fine and graphic arts. The writing thing didn’t return to me until after I turned forty.
I’d had a mystery story mulling in my head for some time, and one night I sat down at a computer and started writing. That moment changed my life. I loved it and have continued to love it ever since.
One more thing. I don’t use any sort of generative AI in my work. No prompts, blurbs, cover designs—nothing. It’s all my own work or that of another human being.
