“Wedding dresses, ex-fiancés, and a whole lot of murder—just another day in Half Moon
Bay”
Therapist Clementine Moriarty thought her return to the whimsical seaside town of Half Moon
Bay, nestled in cozy Donegal – would be a chance to reconnect with her roots, spend time at her

parents’ charming little seaside art gallery and heal from heartbreak. But her homecoming is
anything but peaceful when she stumbles upon an unwelcome surprise—her ex-fiancé, Greg, is
getting married to her best friend, Charlotte, on the very beach where Clementine was supposed
to say “I do.”
Through a series of unexpected twists and turns, what starts as a personal nightmare soon spirals
into an intriguing mystery. An anonymous email had lured Clementine back home, but who sent
it and why? As the wedding unfolds, tensions simmer, secrets surface, and Half Moon Bay’s
picturesque façade begins to crack. When someone turns up dead with a series of baffling clues
and puzzles, Clementine finds herself the role of unlikely detective as she becomes the prime
suspect.
With the help of a heartwarming, blue-haired artist and her sharp intuition, Clementine must
navigate a maze of jealous exes, local gossip, and buried betrayals to uncover the truth amid the
charming and Whimsical backdrop of Donegal. But in a village where everyone has something
to hide, will this quirky crime-solving team be able to unmask the killer before it’s too late?
Perfect for fans of small-town mysteries, vibrant characters, clever clues, and a touch of
romance, Murder at an Irish Wedding will keep you guessing until the final page.

About L. C. Winters

L. C. Winters author photo

L.C. Winters is the pen name for Laura Cavanagh & Colin Vaughan. We are from Ireland, and
we aim to bring our culture, cozy Irish atmosphere, legends and history into our stories. We write
cozy mystery romance novels. Our focus is on creating a set of clever clues with twists and turns
to keep you guessing until the very end. Our first series is called ‘Half Moon Bay Mysteries and
it is set in a small, seaside village in Ireland. Our stories promote a romanticised view of small-
town life with a host of eccentric, lovable characters.
As avid mystery fans (we love the classics like Agatha Christie as well as modern cozy authors
like Richard Osman), we love deciphering clues and trying to beat the detective to figure out
who commited the crime. So we decided to create mysteries with a complex set of interrelated

clues which are delivered in an easy to follow story. We hope that the ending of each of our
mysteries is both a surprise and, at the same time, feels inevitable and ‘right’.
Laura has a degree in Psychology and this is reflected in our protagonist Clementine who uses
her Psychology know-how to figure out the motives, secrets and inconsistencies in each suspect.
With our cozy fiction, we aim to create heartwarming stories with lovable, quirky characters in a
nice, soothing environment. Wherever you are when you are reading our stories, we hope to
whisk you away to beautiful, picturesque Ireland to the seaside county of Donegal!

“How to Co-Author a Book Without Killing Each Other (and Maybe Even Enjoy It)”

People are often curious about what it’s like to write a book as a couple. The polite version is:
It’s a creative joy built on trust and mutual respect.
The real version? It’s also emails titled “WHY IS THIS CHARACTER SUDDENLY LEFT-
HANDED??” at 11 p.m. and peaceful walks that turn into heated debates over whether a
fictional druid would wear Crocs.
We write together under the name L.C. Winters — and our Half Moon Bay Mystery series is a
shared creation, though we each bring something different to the process.

Divide and Conquer (Based on Who Actually Writes the Words)
In our case, Laura is the primary writer. She builds the world, drafts the chapters, finds the
emotional heart of each scene, and gives our characters their distinct voices. Then it’s over to
Colin, who reads through everything, sharpens the logic, finds plot inconsistencies, suggests
changes, and occasionally asks, “Wasn’t this guy dead already?”
It’s not about two people sitting side-by-side writing each sentence together — it’s about trust.
One of us leads with the words; the other responds with structure, logic, and the occasional
(gentle) nudge.

Brainstorming Together (Sometimes in the Middle of Starbucks)
Most of our ideas begin in the wild: during walks, over coffee, or while dodging shoppers in a
grocery aisle. One of us might say, “What if the ex shows up at her dad’s birthday party?” and
the other replies, “What if it’s not a birthday party — it’s his wedding… to her best friend?”
We throw out wild ideas, argue, laugh, and slowly uncover the heart of the story. If someone
nearby hears us saying things like, “Would it be too soon to poison the champagne?” — we’ve
learned not to make eye contact.

Plot as a Team, Edit Like Strangers
We outline the story together — key scenes, plot twists, character arcs. Once Laura writes the
first draft, Colin edits as a “first reader.” He’s not thinking about how long the scene took to write
— he’s focused on clarity, logic, and what actually works.

This separation keeps things smoother. The editor isn’t afraid to suggest cutting a scene. And
the writer isn’t precious about it (well, not too precious). It’s about getting the best story on the
page — not about being right.

Respect Different Writing Rhythms
We don’t write at the same pace. Laura works in bursts of creative flow. Colin works
methodically. If we tried to sync every step, it would be frustrating. So instead, we pass the
baton — draft, review, revise. It’s like a creative relay race with shared snacks and alternating
meltdowns.

Let the Characters Take the Heat
Instead of arguing with each other, we sometimes funnel that energy straight into our
characters. Clementine and Mason can hash it out so we don’t have to. It’s cheaper than
therapy, and occasionally, they surprise us with a better solution than we could’ve come up with
ourselves.
It’s also fun watching fictional people say the things you almost said in real life but knew better.

Have a Shared Vision — but Also Embrace Differences
We agree on the tone of our books: warm but honest, emotional but witty, cozy but sharp. That
shared vision helps guide our choices — especially when we’re lost in the middle of a mystery
and trying to figure out who actually did it.
But we don’t always agree. And that’s okay.
If a plot point or character detail sparks debate, we take a breath, walk away, and come back to
it with clearer heads.

Why It’s Worth It
Co-authoring as a couple isn’t always tidy, but it’s deeply rewarding. We’re building stories
together — not just fictional ones, but a creative life we share. And when a reader tells us they
stayed up too late because they had to know what happened next? That moment belongs to
both of us.

Writing together means celebrating each tiny victory with someone who understands exactly
what went into it. It means laughing about plot holes on rainy walks. It means arguing about
commas and then ordering takeaway because we’re too tired to cook.
So yes, writing as a couple takes compromise, a sense of humour, and a lot of tea. But it also
brings us joy. And in the end, we think that’s what makes our stories stronger — and more
human.

L.C. Winters is the shared pen name of a writing couple based in Ireland. They’re the authors
of the Half Moon Bay Mystery series, where small-town gossip meets seaside suspense. When
not writing, they can usually be found editing each other’s metaphors, chasing plot holes, or
wondering who moved the biscuits again.
