“We’ve come here with one goal in mind, but to be truly unified, we need a base of trust.
Together, my sisters and I will cast a circle where none who wish each other harm can enter. If
you don’t enter, you will not be coming with us.”
“We’re fighting for freedom, and you’re already trying to take away choice,” someone
yells from the back.
The dark-haired woman purses her lips. “We underestimated this man’s reach once. It’s
not a mistake we plan to repeat. You have a choice: join us and enter into the circle or leave.”
The hesitation is strange. I turn, searching the crowd for the source of the words.
“She wants to control us like all the other witches the leaders have in their pockets.” This
protest comes from a female on the other side of the forest. “She’ll enslave us.”
Unrest sweeps through the crowd as distrust is sewn.
“I will not let this happen,” I whisper.
“Ylva—”
“No, Cadoc. They need support from everyone,” I try to make him understand.
Nodding, he steps forward, working with the others to clear a path as we move to the
front. We take our place beside the witches who flash curious glances our way. Cal nods her
head in acknowledgment of my choice.
“This woman has saved my mate’s and my skin more times than I can count. I trust her
with my life, and you should too. The only way for us to win this war is together. The Alpha
