Beauty Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated

Somewhere along the way, taking care of your hair and skin became an industry determined to convince us we need seventeen products, six mysterious serums, and a chemistry degree just to wash our faces.
The Salon takes a simpler approach.
This is where beauty meets practical know-howโfrom homemade shampoos and natural skincare to soaps, lotions, bath products, hair care, and everyday ideas for looking after the body you’re already living in.
You can learn to make something yourself, discover a better way to use what you already have, or simply find a little inspiration for your next beauty experiment.
No ten-step routine required. Just take what works, leave what doesn’t, and make it your own.

A Little Something From the Beauty Kitchen
You don’t always need to buy another bottle. Sometimes a few simple ingredients and five minutes in the kitchen are enough to make something pretty great.
Today’s recipe: a simple Brown Sugar Body Scrub. It’s beginner-friendly, recognizable, inexpensive, and perfectly introduces what the Beauty Kitchen is about.
TODAY’S BEAUTY RECIPE
Brown Sugar Body Scrub
Soft skin. Three ingredients. No mysterious chemicals you have to Google.
You’ll Need
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup coconut oil, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Make It
Stir everything together until evenly combined. Spoon into a clean, dry jar with a lid.
To use, massage a small amount onto damp skin using gentle circular motions, then rinse well with warm water.
Salon Tip:
Keep water out of the jar and scoop the scrub with clean, dry hands or a spoon. Because this recipe doesn’t contain a preservative, make small batches rather than keeping it around forever.
Congratulations. You just made something from the beauty aisle in your kitchen.
