Influencer-turned-bakery-owner Maddy Montgomery has sold plenty of wedding cakes before, but before she turns one out for her and her fiancé’s wedding, she’ll have to solve a little case of murder . . .

Aunt Octavia would be so proud! Maddy has turned Baby Cakes Bakery—named for her 250-pound English Mastiff, Baby—into a runaway success, and she’s marrying the love of her life, veterinarian Michael Portman. #DreamWedding! Plus the timing couldn’t be better: the country’s biggest bridal expo has come to New Bison, Michigan, and Maddy has secured a spot for Baby Cakes to showcase their cakes. She’s also entered a contest for an all-expenses-paid wedding extravaganza offered by world-renowned wedding planner Serafina.

Unfortunately, supremely nasty Serafina truly takes the cake—she makes the worst bridezilla seem like a shy flower girl. But there’s one thing the wedding planner didn’t plan on—being impaled by one of the skewers Baby Cakes uses on their tiered wedding cakes.

While Maid of Honor Sheriff April Johnson rounds up suspects at the expo, Maddy and her aunt’s friends, the Baker Street Irregulars, and even Baby join forces to unveil a killer hiding in plain sight . . . before wedding bells start to chime.

Author Interview

What is your favorite part of this book and why?

My favorite part of this book is when Maddy discovers her mother’s wedding dress and a
family quilt that has been passed down for generations. Maddy learns more about her mother, her family and herself.

If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?

I would love to spend time with Maddy Montgomery. Maddy is a social media influencer and
fashionista, both are areas where I struggle. I would love to learn to improve my social media skills, so I’d like to spend time filming Baby and posting pictures and videos.

What books/authors have most inspired you?

I have been inspired by a variety of books and authors. Some of my favorite authors include Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, Emily Brightwell, and Victoria Thompson.
I love books that are creative and humorous. I read and reread them often.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

The majority of the characters I write about come from my imagination. However, some of the characters are inspired by real people. Whenever I encounter mean people, I use them as inspiration for victims in my mysteries. It’s been cathartic.

What made you want to become a writer?

When I discovered cozy mysteries, I fell in love with the genre. I binge read series after series.
There were so many wonderful mysteries, but there were tons more than I wanted to read. After a while, I developed my Cozy Mystery Wish List. The list included all of the cozy mystery books that I WISHED someone would write. After decades, I realized that if no one was writing the books that I wanted to read, then maybe I should try my hand at writing them. After all, if I wanted to read them, there was
probably someone else who would want to read them, too.
