When Gina Morrison agrees to pen the memoir of celebrity chef Marisol St James, she expects
high-pressure deadlines, diva behavior, and decadent dishes-not murder. But when Marisol is
found dead in her restaurant’s kitchen, Gina’s literary aspirations take a back seat to her survival.
Between a cutthroat industry, simmering secrets, and the demands of Marisol’s unfinished
manuscript, Gina becomes entangled in a web of lies, rivalries, and danger. Worse still, Marisol’s
killer may be keeping tabs on Gina to ensure she doesn’t write too much.

Interview questions:
What is your favorite part of this book and why?
There are a couple of places where we think we know what’s going on, but it’s really something else entirely and that was fun to do. One thing I really lie is that we get to hear Marisol’s voice through the recorded interviews, Gina’s through her own story, and then the blend as Gina writes the finished sections of Marisol’s memoir cookbook which are included at the end along with the recipes.
If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
For sure, it would be Marisol, and hopefully she’d cook for me. I think we’d drink wine and laugh while eating delicious food and talk about the world’s best restaurants.
What books/authors have most inspired you?
I’d say that Nancy drew kicked off my love of mystery fiction, then I moved through Agatha Christie and on to more contemporary mysteries.
And Then There Were None really got me thinking about how we decide what’s important and what is distraction. The Nero Wolfe mysteries by Rex Stout showed me that crime could be witty and smart. And Stephen King is full of lessons, most recently inspiring some stories with multiple points of view.
Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
I wouldn’t say any characters were based on real people, however I do like to collect quirks or personality and find ways to work those things in somewhere. In Murder in the Mix, I did try to think of amazing women chefs when I created Marisol, but she shares traits with several favorites from years of watching Food Network.
What made you want to become a writer?
My love of reading. At first it didn’t seem like something I could try – more like a thing other people did. Other people who knew that they were good enough, but one thing life teaches you is that nobody has it together.
We are all making it up as we go, so might as well try the things you love.
