When the local garden club president is killed, food blogger Hope Early will have to dig through the clues to catch a killer . . .
The Jefferson Garden Club’s annual plant sale is just around the corner, but Hope Early and other members of the club are more focused on the garden restoration project at Ambrose House. The gorgeous landscaping promises to help return the stately old house to its former glory, but rumors are surfacing of unexplained delays and exorbitant costs. Then the club’s president is found dead amid signs of foul play, and Hope can’t ignore the uneasy feeling that the victim was silenced for something she knew about the renovations.
Certain that the solution to the murder is tied to the garden project and the club’s recent financial struggles, Hope begins to go through their books and uncovers more than mismatched numbers. A tangle of transactions points to an intricate embezzlement scheme, but before she can weed out who’s behind it, a local reporter chasing the same story is killed. It’s clear now that someone is dead-set on keeping the truth buried, and Hope will have to unearth a vital piece of evidence before the killer decides it’s time to bury her as well . . .
Includes mouthwatering recipes!
Sarandipity’s Character Interview – Hope Early
Describe yourself.
I’m a food blogger, cookbook author, and apparently an unwilling magnet for murder investigations. I live in Jefferson, Connecticut, where life is usually filled with recipes, community events, and coffee dates with friends… until someone turns up dead.
What makes you laugh?
It’s more like who. My sister Claire. She has a way of saying exactly what everyone else is thinking. And honestly, some of the small-town gossip in Jefferson can be unintentionally hilarious.
Are you afraid of anything?
Absolutely. I’m afraid that one day my curiosity is going to land me in real trouble. Ethan reminds me of that all the time. I’m also afraid of letting down the people I care about.
Do you have a special talent or gift?
I can usually tell when someone is hiding something. Also, I make a pretty amazing blueberry crumb cake.
Do you have a secret?
I pretend I’m perfectly calm and organized most of the time, but before every blog event, class, or cookbook appearance, I get nervous.
Tell us about your family.
My sister Claire is one of the most important people in my life. We’re very different, but we’ve always been there for each other. Our parents live in Florida. Family in Jefferson also extends beyond blood relatives. Friends and neighbors become part of your everyday life here.
Who is the most important person in your life?
That’s hard to answer because there are several people I couldn’t imagine life without. Claire and Ethan are at the top of the list. They keep me grounded, even when I’m chasing clues I probably shouldn’t be chasing.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
There have been too many to count. There was that viral video of me wielding a gigantic candy cane decoration at someone who I believed was a murderer. If you want the full story behind that particular moment of humiliation, you’ll have to read The Corpse Among the Carolers.
What do you do for fun?
Cooking and baking are at the top of the list, even when I’m not working on recipes for the blog. I also love wandering through the shops in Jefferson, catching up with friends over coffee, and curling up with a good mystery novel.
If you could change anything about your life, what would it be?
I’d love for murder investigations to stop finding me. But honestly, even with all the chaos, I’m grateful for the life I have in Jefferson and the people around me.
Tell me about your author.
Debra is constantly putting me in dangerous situations and then expecting me to figure my way out of them. Apparently, running a food blog and trying to enjoy small-town life in Jefferson isn’t enough excitement for her. But I will say this, she gives me great
friends, delicious food, and just enough coffee to survive the chaos.
Do you like the way they write you?
I do. She gives me mysteries that keep me guessing, wonderful friends, and a community I love being a part of. Of course, she occasionally puts me in dangerous situations, but I have to admit, I do enjoy solving a good mystery. Life in Jefferson would
be a lot quieter otherwise.
