About Deena Alexander

Deena grew up in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, where she met and
married her high school sweetheart. She recently relocated to Florida with her husband, three
kids, son-in-law, and four dogs. Now she enjoys long walks in nature all year long, despite the
occasional alligator or snake she sometimes encounters. Deena’s love for writing developed
when her youngest son was born and didn’t sleep through the night, and she now works full time
as a writer and a freelance editor.

Character Interview

Describe yourself.

Hi, and thank you so much for having me. My name is Olivia Delaney. At least, that’s what they tell me. Unfortunately, I can’t remember anything about my past before the moment I regained consciousness in a burning limo at the bottom of a cliffside in the California desert. Since I woke wearing a black pencil skirt, cream-colored blouse, and Christian Louboutin pumps, I assume I have some sense of style. Also, considering the pumps and limo, I might be well off. Or maybe not.

What makes you laugh?

At the moment, my savior’s search and rescue dog, Ranger, who bounces between being on full alert and being a wonderful companion.

Are you afraid of anything?

Until recently, I wouldn’t have been able to answer that. Now, I can say with one-hundred percent certainty that I am not an adventurous woman and that dangling beneath a helicopter while gunmen shoot at me with AK-47s terrifies me.

Do you have a special talent or gift?

Apparently, I’m an artist, as I discovered when I found the landscapes I painted.

Do you have a secret?

My entire past is a secret, even from me. But whatever secrets are hidden
there, someone is willing to kill to keep them from coming to light.

Tell us about your family.

Actually, I’m not sure if I have family. I can’t remember. So, for now, I’ll
have to say the Jameson Investigations agent who came to my rescue in the desert, Caleb Miller, and
his dog, Ranger, are the only family I have.

Who is the most important person in your life?

Right now, it’s Caleb. He rescued me, flew me across the country so his boss could try to find out who I am and who’s trying to kill me, and seems like an all-around good guy. He risked his life to protect me. And yet, I still have a difficult time trusting him.
I’m guessing some betrayal from my past must have caused that inability to trust.

What do you do for fun?

I enjoy walking in the swamp (preferably with no gunmen on my heels), painting, and taking nature photographs.

If you could change anything about your life what would it be?

Early in my story, I would change
the fact that I have amnesia. Later, I would wish I could be truer to myself.

Tell me about your author.

Deena writes romantic suspense for Harlequin’s Love Inspired line. She writes flawed characters, whose internal conflicts are as unique and challenging as the danger they find themselves in. That is a prevailing theme throughout most of her stories. Don’t we all have our own flaws to examine, our own challenges to overcome? But to face those challenges while fleeing from or fighting unimaginable danger takes a special kind of strength, courage and faith. In each of her stories, her characters face their own internal battles while running for their lives.

Do you like the way they write you?

I love the way Deena writes me—brave, kind, strong—even when I don’t always feel those things. Mostly, I’m frightened and insecure, but Deena has a way of overcoming those faults.
