What if everything you believed about yourself was totally wrong?
For David Byrdsong, life is a series of daily obligations. An attorney, he lacks both ambition and
the ability to commit to a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, Gayle. Abandoned by his

family at an airport when he was eleven, he learned to blunt his feelings, despite his subsequent
adoption by a loving couple.
Until one day, when David discovers his own face in a missing child ad. Suddenly driven to
uncover the truth about his past, he is forced to tap into his inner strength as he encounters
corporate conspiracies, murdered bystanders, and distressing suspicions about the only family
he’s ever really trusted. David enlists Gayle’s help—and the help of an unlikely stranger with
secrets of his own—as he attempts to find his true family, whoever they are.
Thrilling, exploratory, and propulsive, Have You Seen Him is a story of lost identity,
dangerous secrets, and a deeply personal pursuit of the truth.

Character Interview

Hi Sara! This interview is from the perspective of Gayle, the girlfriend of David, the main
character in Have You Seen Him. From the reviews I’ve read, she’s a favorite. And the next
book in the trilogy will feature her.

Describe yourself.
I’m a loyal friend and and according to some, kind of sassy. A smart-aleck. I don’t
always play by the rules. I question authority and I resist conformity. I love to read,
especially thrillers like the one I’m in. The elliptical machine is where I let out my
frustration. And I spend a fair amount of free time dreaming up different hairstyles. I
never wear the same hairstyle in a week. David loves it when I wear it up, but my
decision on any given day is more about what I like and the mood I’m in.

What makes you laugh?
This may sound strange, but my friend Violet and I just took a workshop called Laughter
Yoga, through the school district where we work. The idea is to laugh for a few minutes
a day for no reason and it’s supposed to be great for decreasing stress and increasing
well-being. It feels a bit silly, but it works. I always feel more relaxed. A “massage for the
organs,” the instructor said. I also love a good standup comedy show by one of my
favorites, like Trevor Noah or Chris Rock.

Are you afraid of anything?
I’ve been described as fearless, but that’s not the case. I feel the fear, but do it anyway,
as they say. Especially if it’s for someone I love.

Do you have a special talent or gift?
I’m a teacher, descended from a long line of educators, so it’s in the blood. I believe in
finding creative ways for children to learn, so I’m always coming up with innovative
projects. The principal often frowns when I step outside the curriculum, but ultimately
she gets it. The ability to think differently could help them someday. It definitely helped
me during this story.

Do you have a secret?
David got on my nerves and also left me at the airport recently, so I went out on a brief,
harmless date with someone else. Not sure if David knows, and I’m not excited for him
to find out.

Who is the most important person in your life?
Do I have to choose one? David, for sure. Despite his shortcomings, he’s really
everything I could ever want in a partner. My good friend Violet. And my dad—he’s no
longer with us, but I feel his presence, telling me to follow my intuition and never give
up, no matter the circumstance.

What do you do for fun?
Roller blading on the beach. And spa treatments! I have a standing monthly
appointment. I go to a day spa in the story, although it doesn’t turn out well.

If you could change anything about your life what would it be?
I would like to settle down with David—he’s my person. But he’s going to have to figure
himself out before it’s too late.

Tell me about your author.
Kimberly works really hard, and she’s a perfectionist. In early drafts, she’d have me
saying and doing one thing, then she’d agonize over it and change it. We underwent a
lot of revision after comments from her editors. She can be pretty tough on herself. But I
appreciate her so much for persevering and getting our book out there. People are
reading about me!

Do you like the way they write you?
Absolutely! Kimberly did a great job. Very flattering portrayal, and I love the things I got
to do in the plot. That’s why the readers adore me!
