Character Interview
Describe yourself.
My name is Avery Taylor. I live in a small but cozy bungalow on a cul-de-sac at
the end of a winding road in the mountains of Montana with my four-year-old daughter, Liliana. Since my grandfather passed away, it’s just the two of us. I work from home as a medical transcriptionist and supplement my income with my inheritance. I’m an introvert, so living amid nature on the mountainside with no close neighbors is perfect for me. Plus, if you don’t let anyone get close, you can’t get hurt.
What makes you laugh?
Lily! My daughter is the joy of my life, and I love playing with her and taking her for long walks in nature and watching her discover everything. And her antics always make
me laugh.
Are you afraid of anything?
The only thing I fear is anything happening to my little girl.
Do you have a special talent or gift?
I believe I’m good at my job, but my true talent lies in motherhood.
Do you have a secret?
I do have a secret, and it’s a doozy. My childhood sweetheart, Tristan, left town after his parents were murdered because he couldn’t bear the pain of living in the small town
and wondering if he would come face to face with their killer every day. I understood that, but I’d always hoped he’d return. Unfortunately, he never did, so I never got the chance to share with him that he was going to be a father. I recently discovered that Tristan went on to become an FBI agent when Lily was kidnapped to keep him from testifying at a trial.
Tell us about your family.
My parents left me when I was young, only to be killed in some foreign land when I was a child, and my grandfather raised me. Since he passed away last year, it’s just Lily
and me.
Who is the most important person in your life?
My daughter is the most important person in my world. And, I’ve come to realize lately, Tristan is too.
What do you do for fun?
Lily and I hike the mountain, run through fields of wildflowers, and sit by the waterfall and watch the rapids.
If you could change anything about your life what would it be?
My life is just about perfect, except for the fact that I never tracked Tristan down to tell him about his daughter. I did try to call him a few times, left messages for him to call me back, but he never did. In hindsight, I should probably have left a message telling him the truth, but I hadn’t wanted him to find out about his daughter through a message and, honestly, I didn’t want him to return only out of obligation, I wanted him to return because he loved me. If I could, though, I would change the fact that I kept Lily a secret, not only because she ended up being abducted because he didn’t know about her, but because he was so hurt
when he found out the truth.
Tell me about your author.
Deena Alexander writes romantic suspense for Love Inspired Suspense as well as cozy mysteries. She is currently working on her fortieth novel, the next book in the Missing
Person Investigations series for Harlequin.
Do you like the way they write you?
I do like the way Deena wrote me, but I was also pretty insistent on how I’d like to be portrayed. I wanted to make sure readers understood I was strong, yet compassionate, courageous, yet kind.
